Keep Your Pets Friendly

6/15/2012

As we told you earlier this month one local dog owner appeared before Dawson Creek city council to appeal the ruling that his dog was vicious. The ruling came after his dog pulled the neighbouring Chihuahua through the fence. Wendy Davies of the South Peace SPCA says fence fighting can be dangerous behaviour.

"This is a well known behaviour amongst dogs this is called fence fighting. We know that injury is predictable and preventable in these cases. So, if dogs are allowed to fence fight we know that eventually some harm could come," explained Davies

Davies is asking all pet owners to take precautions before the situation leads to  injury.

"If your dog is fighting with a neighbours dog, barking, snapping, growling through the fence there are many ways that you can address this. We would ask people to call us down here at the shelter 782 2444 or call Dawson Animal Control at 250 219 7505. We will come up and we will assist you in the situation. Look at the fencing that you have between you and your neighbours, we can help introduce dogs and help prevent these incidents from happening," Davies said

The dog's vicious ruling was appealed by council. An appeal of the appeal by the injured dogs owner was scheduled but the owner didn't appear on the day it was scheduled.
