This CD reissue adds "O Grande Amor" to the original nine-song program. The frequently hard-charging pianist John Campbell is in top form in a trio with bassist Todd Coolman and drummer Gerry Gibbs. Other than Terry Gibbs' "Lonely Days," the music is comprised of standards, many (including "Donna Lee," "Relaxin' at Camarillo" and Bud Powell's "Hallucinations") dating from the bebop era. Campbell, whose influences at the time included Oscar Peterson, takes consistently exhilarating and unpredictable solos on the straightahead repertoire, showing that he has long been an underrated talent.
