Bassist/vocalist Karla Schickele was a founding member of alt-rockers Beekeeper (along with her guitar-playing brother, Matthew), as well as a member of the folk-pop outfit Ida, and a solo artist under the alias k. In 1997, Beekeeper released the single "Anywhere Will Do," and the album Ostrich in 1998, during their brief tenure together. Meanwhile, Schickele appeared on such Ida releases as 1997's Ten Small Paces, 1998's Losing True, and 2000's You Will Find Me. She also lent a hand in penning such tunes as "Poor, Dumb Bird," "Fallen Arrow," "Tiger Dare," "This Water," "Man in Mind," and "Firefly." 2001 saw the release of Schickele's debut as a solo artist, New Problems, as she showcased her writing and arranging skills. Also appearing on the album were Tara Jane O'Neil (Retsin, Sonora Pine), bandmates Dan Littleton and Liz Mitchell, and Rose Thomson (Babe the Blue Ox), among others. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
